Третья генерация столь полюбившейся потребителям модели была представлена на Детройтском автосалоне в январе 2010 года. В декабре 2010 года в Германии на заводе в Саарлоусе стартовало производство Форд Фокус 3 для стран европейского рынка. Выход нового Focus на американский рынок запланирован на начало 2011 года, а Россия увидит новый Форд Фокус 3 после старта производства модели на мощностях завода во Всеволожске, что должно произойти не позже середины 2011 года. В отличие от предыдущих версий, Ford Focus 3 построен на новой глобальной платформе, одинаковой для автомобилей, выпускаемых на всех континентах. Новая платформа С1 представляет собой модернизацию платформы второго поколения c полуизолированными задним и передним подрамниками и доработками элементов задней многорычажной подвески Control Blade. Внешность нового Ford Focus III наследует облик концепта Iosis Max, который олицетворяет собой продолжение вариаций на тему кинетического дизайна. Так вот если говорить о технических характеристиках Ford Focus 3, то европейским покупателям предлагаются высокотехнологичные бензиновые 1,6-литровые двигатели EcoBoost SCTi на 150 и 180 л.с., для России базовым послужит сокрее всего 1,6-литровый Duratec Ti-VCT на 105 л.с. (моторы на 1,4 литра с предыдущей модели похоже отправили на «пенсию»). Также для России, по непроверенной пока информации, предусмотрен бензиновый 2-литровый GDI Ti-VCT на 160 л.с., и конечно же топовый 2-литровый EcoBoost SCTi ST на 250 л.с. для модели Ford Focus ST. Дизель реализован в моторах системы Duratorq TDCi объемом от 1,6 до 2 литров, и мощностью от 95 до 163 л. с. (какие из них будут ставиться на автомобили для российского рынка, пока не ясно). К старым коробкам передач добавится новая разработка компании Getrag — 6-ступенчатая преселективная коробка передач PowerShift с парой «сухих» сцеплений. Кстати Ford Focus III стал безопаснее своих предшественников. За счет применения высокопрочных сортов стали усилена на 25% жесткость кузова на кручение. А также доработаны деформируемые при столкновении элементы, что позитивно сказалось на активной безопасности.
